S3// Compost Teas w/ Troy Hinke of Living Roots Compost Tea
The Summer Shorts Series (S3) is supported by.. you. Or, y’all. That’s it. No sponsors. We’re going to be nerding out over the Summer in our preparation for season three of the No-Till Market Garden Podcast and wanted to share some of these bonus conversations with you as a show of appreciation for the 400+ folks who support us through Patreon and the thousands of growers who tune-in on a weekly basis. Our work does not stop just beause the growing season has arrived and we could all use some inspiration while we’re out in the field. If you get something out of what you hear today…
In this S3, Troy breaks down what a good compost tea is made of… a recipe, if you will. Check out his bio: Troy left Nashville to begin his composting career at Rodale Institute, an organic research farm in Kutztown, PA. Serving as Rodale’s Compost Research Specialist Troy worked side-by-side with Dr. Elaine Ingham, founder of Soil Foodweb Inc. Here he performed experiments with compost and compost tea on both large and small-scale agricultural production. From Rodale, Troy moved back to Tennessee to start and co-manage an organic farm and CSA for Highland Realm in Hampshire, TN. Upon returning to Nashville he became the Soil and Compost Tea Specialist for Gardens of Babylon. In 2015 Troy moved to Chapmansboro,TN where he worked for a large-scale windrow composting facility before starting Living Roots Compost Tea.
