The No-Till Market Garden Podcast, Hana & Daniel Fulmer of Tierra Vida Farm
But first, a word from our supporters…
First, and foremost, our work is—in large part—supported by YOU! Yes, you. Our purpose is to bring you—the farmer—the best no-till growing content out there. For free. Did you get something out of this podcast? If you found this post to be of value, and want to see No-Till Growers grow, support our work for as little as $2/month on Patreon or Venmo/Paypal a onetime contribution. At 30 episodes a year, that’s less than a dollar for each episode. We need your help to reach $1,000/month to do season two of the podcast, run the site, and bring you EVEN BETTER no-till, low-till, and regenerative veg content. Quite literally, we couldn’t do it without y’all.
This episode was brought to you by Growing for Market. … AND Banner Greenhouses is a second generation, family owned, certified organic and naturally grown, flower and vegetable plant grower. They have been producing plants since 1991. Their greenhouses and outdoor growing areas cover over 18 acres! and enable them to provide optimum growing conditions for each cultivar. Get CCOF certified organic vegetable and flower transplants delivered straight to your farm. It’s as simple as creating an account, choosing a crop and desired plug size, then designating what week you want them to arrive. Whether you want to simplify your transplant production, or don’t yet have a prop house, get a better start with Banner.
The Neversink Farm Course is an expensive tool, but unlike any other farm tool you will ever buy, the Neversink Farm Course can be used in almost every area of your farm: no-till systems, indoor tomato production, flowers, labor management, the list goes on. Moreover, this tool does not depreciate, it grows, for life. Indeed, Conor is adding new sections all the time, including a No-Till/Minimal Soil-Disturbance lesson (which we’re super stoked about), and a library (video and written) organized by vegetable. Conor has been an avid supporter of the show from the beginning and we greatly appreciate it. If you’re thinking about joining the course read our review or click on the picture for a demo!
… & now onto the show
Hana and Daniel Fullmer join us from Tierra Vida Farm in Durango, Colorado. This is a “nuts and bolts” kind of episode about how they built their soil from not so great beginnings (like maybe most of us?) using first mechanical means and now cover crops (with goats!), managing space on their 2+ acres of production with silage tarps and flame weeders, the water situation in CO and how they’ve approached it, relying heavily on transplant production, and—of course—moving compost around on the farm. Also, a word on how to use sub-soiling for the benefit of soil biology.
